Battleship

From Battleship:

“Battleship is a bastard child of a the now defunct Chicago DIY venue, the Mopery. The duo is comprised of West TX transplant M. T. Coast and Chicago local, Zach Mark. The self-described “ambient-noise” project has spent the last two years composing deeply textured and often conflictive pieces, which take place at the apex of one of our most defining struggles traits, synthesis. Using digital and analog combinations of electronic instruments, alongside acoustic instruments and field recordings, Battleship captures the struggle between the real and virtual, shedding a revelatory light on what is always present but often invisible to us, that reality is synthetic by nature.

Side A is a ghost train ride to a black magic foundry in the middle of the Chihuahuan desert. Over the course of two pieces, it moves like a vaporous locomotive across the Marathon planes of West Texas, emerging from quiet isolation into the industrial incantation of some sinister and synthetic hermetics. The machinelike hex is broken only by living sounds.

Side B is a full immersion into the murky sortilege of the duo. The air pulsates with the ghostly works of back country Midwest metalcasting, accompanied by the an islamic prayer to the sunrise. The Fajir echoes off the canyon walls, and the heart of the foundry begins to fail. In what is no doubt in some ways a tale of the human struggle against incorporation, neither eremite nor theurgist endures. “
