CHICAGO JIM / DAKOTA BONES [LIVE AT LAKE PARADISE, split CS]

Posted by POTIONS / February 18, 2013

This release stems from a live pretty all right ‘showcase’ in late 2012. Two tall dudes from the midwest both operating on Akai MPCs & Juno 106s recorded straight to cassette tape at DIY space Lake Paradise (home to pretty all right, TEEN RIVER, & lake paradise records,), this raw document of electronic dance music will not win an award for its fidelity, but CAN you get down to the dirty handclaps & blown out kick drums?! duh~ Chicago Jim throws down a mixture of pillow-y synths, with nods to kraftwerk, giorgio, & Chicago house’s off-the-cuff drum machine programming. On the flip side, Detroit’s Dakota Bones brings a lounge vibe mixed with cinematic string patches, soulful vocal snippets, occasional sped up funk horns & basslines, & the firm yet pleasant punch of the 4 on the 4loor kick drum. Bones seamlessly glues together several flavors of sexy for this dance set, which differs greatly from his debut tape for pretty all right last year.

Available now on cassette.
